REVIEW: Stila Lip Glaze

I’ll start this review off by saying: I’m not the biggest fan of lipgloss. Unless it dries matte, sets relatively dry, or stains I think it’s more hassle than it’s worth. With that being said you can take the following review of the Stila Lip Glaze for what it’s worth.

Tina sent me this lipgloss in Strawberry for contributing to My Highest Self. At first I was stoked because Stila is a higher end brand. So I guess you could say I had high hopes.

REVIEW: Stila Lip Glaze

The first thing that disappointed me was the click-pen applicator. Ughhhhh I hate click-pen lipglosses! With most of them, (the Stila Lip Glaze being no exception) you have to keep twisting and clicking FOREVER to get the first drop of gloss out on your first application. Why is that a problem? Besides it being annoying, by the time you’ve clicked the pen all the way up so that it’s actually dispensing lip gloss, you can see that the gloss now looks half empty in the packaging. You’re not getting as much product as you think you are from just looking at an unused tube. For $22, I better get a full tube of lipgloss! Furthermore, I always have a problem getting an appropriate amount of product out of click-pens… it either isn’t enough or it’s GUSHING out.

The second thing that disappointed me was the texture. This stuff is thiiiiiiick. It’s probably the thickest lipgloss I’ve ever worn. It’s also fairly sticky, which I know is supposed to make it last longer, but it just doesn’t feel good to me on my lips.

And the third disappointment: it never sets. Even after hours, it’s prone to transferring, slipping and smudging. Needless to say, after drinking or eating this lipgloss will be nonexistent.

Okay okay, enough complaining, so what did I like about the lipgloss? I really like the color in Strawberry, and the color is buildable (although I haven’t been able to get it as vibrant as it looks in the tube). But remember: the more you build, the more gloopy the glaze gets.

It also smells yummy! Like… well, strawberries! Although it doesn’t have a taste, which is actually a good thing to me. For some reason, flavored lipglosses always give me a sore throat… weird.

So for $22, I would not splurge on the Stila Lip Glazes. I’ve read great reviews for the similar e.l.f. Hypershine Gloss, which goes for $1… try that. My favorite lipgloss which goes for around $7 in drugstores is the Revlon Colorburst collection.

Looks super pretty on you, but I am not a fan of these!

Thanks! I agree, it looks really pretty when I first apply it but it’s seriously not worth the hassle. The color is gone within a few hours of my day, just from sipping on a cup of water.

Thanks Kath!!! I’ve been a part of BBC for a while now, but I *just* started actually participating and now I don’t know how I went so long without you all! 🙂
