Just as we’re starting to transition into Spring looks, the fashion industry moves two steps ahead and is already talking Autumn. Designers are unveiling their fall collections, and everyone’s got their eyes on the beauty trends that accompany the ensembles.

Negative space nails have been having their moment during the past couple seasons, and it looks like the fad is here to stay at least a little while longer. Madeline Poole, Sally Hansen’s Global Color Ambassador, made her mark during the Autumn 2016 Stella McCartney fashion show by creating this exclusive negative space manicure.

I’m totally into the design, which could easily be worn year round using different shades. Better yet, it’s actually pretty simple to recreate with only four steps and two polishes you can pick up at the drugstore. Keep reading to see how to do it yourself at home!

Click through for the steps to recreate this negative space nail look from Stella McCartney's Autumn 2016 Show.

Steps:

  1. Paint two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Au Nature-al on bare nails.
  2. Using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in the shade Pat on the Black, make three dots as a guideline for your moon shape— one dot in the center (where the top of the curve will sit) and one dot on either side of the nail where the curve will end and hit the cuticle.
  3. Connect the dots to form an arch shape and fill in the area with the same shade.
  4. Create guideline points close to the bottom corner of the nail and another at the top corner of your nail. Use this to connect the diagonal line shape. Repeat this step a few millimeters above the original line with another diagonal stripe.

Are you still loving the negative space nail trend?

negative-space nails can be so cool. Using a good basecoat can make a difference in how my nails look, too.
