5 Tips To Get a Perfect Winter Pedicure

So I know it’s not just me: it’s pretty tempting to forget about our pedicure routines during fall and winter. Our feet are often bundled up in fuzzy socks, boots or slippers… out of sight, out of mind. But, when you do decide to go barefoot and your feet are looking less than pampered, it can be a tad bit of a shock.

I personally love giving myself at home pedicures not only to take care of my feet but also as a relaxing me-time activity. Though just like with the rest of our beauty routine, we need to make a few tweaks to get the results we want during this time of year. Learn how to do a winter pedicure the right way with these 5 tips and hacks.

1. Never Skimp on Softening Cream

Especially in chilly weather, your feet need extra TLC when it comes to moisturizing. My feet are the first part of the body to get dry and patchy this season, so I always apply a generous amount of foot cream before I start my pedicure. I’m loving the SofSpa Softening Cream Concentrate, which has particularly made my heels feel the smoothest they’ve ever been!

2. Protect with Pedi-Sox

This is one of my best-kept secrets for a perfect winter pedicure! After moisturizing, protect your feet with Pedi-Sox. These socks keep your feet comfy, cozy, and protected while exposing your toes so you can complete your pedicure! They’re incredibly handy (or… footy?) in locking in the moisture from the foot cream, as well as letting you walk around after your toes are done without getting your feet dirty or cold. You end up with incredibly soft skin from the moisturizing treatment while getting a flawless pedicure with less opportunity for smudging! To be honest, I wear these around even when I’m not doing my toes because they are super comfy and let my toes breathe without walking around barefoot (something I hate doing!)

3. Your Toes Need Cuticle Oil, Too!

Cuticle oil is a must when doing a manicure, don’t forget about it when doing your toes, too! This will help hydrate the skin further and keep the nails looking healthy, ready to be shown off at a moment’s notice. My favorite is the OPI Avoplex Nail & Cuticle Replenishing Oil, which contains a super antioxidant-rich blend of oils and smells amazing, too— a nice plus! A little goes a long way to make your cuticles look clean, hydrated and healthy.

4. Clean the Nail

This is another beauty hack for getting a smooth polish application. After using cuticle oil, you should clean the nail itself with a type of nail cleanser (or nail polish remover). This will remove any dirt or oil residue and let polish apply evenly while gripping the nail. I use a cotton swab for precise cleaning so that I don’t take the oil away from the cuticles.

5. Base Coat or Bust

As I said before, it’s easy to forget about our feet during this time of year. Be sure you’re always using a base coat before your polish, especially if you’re prone to let more time lapse between pedicures in the wintertime. This will help avoid your polish from staining your nails from long wear, as well as contribute to an even application and longer wear time, so they won’t look too funky after a couple weeks have passed. 😉

With these easy winter pedicure tips, you’ll have presentable tootsies all year round! If you want to show off your pedicure and make the effort worth your while, rock your Pedi-Sox at home to put your polish on display while keeping your feet warm and cozy. They come in a bunch of different colors and patterns— I’m loving the leopard and Mary-Jane ones to switch things up! Check them out online for $9-$16 per pair.

I like the looks of the pedi sox. I think those would be comforting when I get my cast off.

I should get those pedi sox. I’ve been moisturizing before bed but I don’t like sleeping with socks on my feet.

Oh, you reminded me that I have some pedi sox but I put them away for the summer. Now where are they? Your pedi looks like professional quality. I’m very impressed. Definitely worth it to go through all the steps
