NEW Kiss Professional Instawave Review [BEFORE & AFTER]

A couple of years ago, I threw out my traditional curling irons and turned exclusively to the Kiss Professional Instawave as my go-to curler. You can read my review here, but in a jist, it’s an automatic curler that will wrap your hair around the barrel for you. As it wraps around the ceramic barrel, it smooths the hair so you have bouncy, polished curls every time.

Now, there are three new versions of the Instawave so you can get any curly look you like! Now available in 3/4 inch, 1 inch, and 1 1/4 inch, as well as in pink and blue barrel colors, you can grab the one that gives you your preferred curl or wave. Since the original Instawave is 1 inch, I decided to pick up the new one in 1 1/4 inch for bigger curls that look more like a blow-out.

The Instawave heats up rather quickly in about 30 seconds flat. We still have a High and Low setting, with the hottest temperature reaching 430 degrees (what I typically set mine to). The arrows pointing left and right operate the spin feature to curl your hair in the direction you desire. The prongs around the barrel help detangle and gather your hair onto the wand to avoid any “jams.” The automatic curling motion really does cut down curling time since I’m not fiddling with angles and twisting my wrist, or doing several passes of one section to get it to smooth down.

There are two main differences— besides the size and color— in how the Instawave operates. First is the auto-off feature, which I love. After 90 minutes of inactivity, the curler will automatically turn off for you to avoid burns or other hazards.

The second new feature which isn’t my favorite is the beeping technology that tells you when to release the curl. I think there are too many variables, like hair texture or size of section, that determine when you should release a curl. In my opinion, and for my hair, the beep comes way too soon and my curl isn’t defined when I release it at the sound. I wish I could turn it off, but there doesn’t seem to be that option.

The results with the new Instawave are just— if not more— impressive than the original. When I used to use a regular curling iron, I’d have to actually flat iron my hair ahead of time so I could get smooth curls sans frizz. With the Instawave, it does two steps in one by smoothing and curling for a professional look. I’m loving the bigger barrel size which gives me a ton of volume and really looks like I just left a blow out bar!

The new Kiss Professional Instawave is available exclusively on Amazon for only $49.99 regardless of size and color. Like I said, I literally threw out my other curling irons after getting hooked on this one. If you need help on how to actually use it, watch my YouTube tutorial using the original one here.

Have you ever tried an automatic curling iron?
